Join us for our Open House, in person or on Zoom, to meet COL students and professors, ask questions, and learn more about the major and what it enables you to do.
The College of Letters is Wesleyan’s interdisciplinary Humanities major. The College’s mission is to cultivate the educated imagination through a balance of collective and individual study, based in historical, philosophical, and literary approaches to the production, transmission, translation, interpretation, and critique of the European intellectual and literary tradition. Each class of students forms a community of learners that enrolls in a series of five colloquia. COL majors study a foreign language, go abroad in the spring semester of their junior year, and pursue a senior capstone project. To encourage fearless intellectual and creative exploration, students receive written evaluations but no letter grades.
The College of Letters is a three-year major. The major declaration process for the class of 2024 begins in February 2021. No minimum GPA is required to enroll in the major and there are no prerequisites for declaring the major except for your personal commitment to learning a language other than English, on campus and abroad.
